Steve Lopes
Born in Sydney, Steve Lopes holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts, UNSW. In 1991, he studied at the New York Art Students League, and in 1998 at the London Print Studio in the UK. Since 1996, Lopes has exhibited in more than 40 solo shows across Australia and in London and Hong Kong. In 1997, he won the Young Artist Award at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London. In 2018, he won the Gallipoli Prize with his painting of Mont St Quentin. He was the recipient of the 2021 Kings School Art Prize and he has been shortlisted for many others. In 2022, Lopes is having extensive survey shows at SH Ervin Gallery and Orange Regional Gallery. His work is held in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, Parliament House and the State Library of NSW, and in many other public and private collections.
