Terrain Vague
Terrain vague: A term heavily utilized by architects and
urban planners. It refers to ambiguous, abandoned, or
marginalized spaces within an urban environment that
resist planned development and feel "forgotten".
Terrain Vague is a selection of paintings by Ash
Frost. The paintings stem from his close connection
with the urban environments of Sydney, Tokyo and
New York.
Many of the Sydney paintings are from Alexandria
where he shared a painting studio in Botany Road.
Inspired by early morning walks from Wolli Creek
station along Alexandra Canal and through the back
lanes of Alexandria. The paintings from New York
and Tokyo come from his frequent travels teaching
painting and exhibting his work.
