The Amber Rooms
An exhibition with Deirdre Bean and Trevor Weekes
29 March 2018
Deirdre Bean and Trevor Weekes have an exhibition coming up with fellow artists, Andrew Howell and Lee Zaunders. The Amber Rooms is showing at the Manning Regional Art Gallery, 4 April - 13 May.
The Amber Room is a world famous chamber decorated in amber panels backed with gold leaf and mirrors, located in the Catherine Palace of Tsarskoye Selo near Saint Petersburg. Constructed in the 18th dismantled and eventually disappeared during WWII. Before its loss, it was considered an Eighth Wonder of the World. These four artists have banded together, motivated by the idea that such a place existed. Rather than emulate the room itself, each artist draws on some aspect of the contents of the room and explore it on an artistic level.
